Scripture Sketch

This card, which is 8.5" x 4 1/4" is follows this week's CPS sketch #237.

I created the background using the Scripture verse and small leaf from "The Vine" (GinaK Designs - See "Stamps I use" page for links).
The sentiment and flowers are also from The Vine. The frame for the sentiment is from "All Occasion Tags" (GKD as well).

PUMPKIN Patch!

I saw how to make this on Scor-Pal's website: Check HERE. I thought it was so cute and even though we don't celebrate Thanksgiving in South Africa (we really should) and Thanksgiving falls in our summer, pumpkins are not really big over here :D But I still love it.

Sentiment: GinaK Designs" Bold and Beautiful"

New section: Getting started

At the top of my blog you will see a new page link "Getting started". I wrote this as "class notes" for people starting out with some basic tools and materials you'll need.

HOPE this inspires!

CPS Sketch 236

This card was made for the Card Positioning System Sketch # 236.
The sentiment is from GinaK Designs "Whimsical Wishes". See my "Stamps I use" page on top for a link to the GKD shop.

The paper is from a Prima paperpack.
Solid cardstock is Tim Holtz / Ranger Distress Collection.

New page - Stamps I use

If you look at the top, you'll see a new page link "Stamps I use". Instead of having to create links within my posts to the location of where you can view and/or buy the stamps, I've created a library of sorts of the stamps in my collection, both physical and digital.

Rainbow Birthday & Butterfly Thank You

I made these two cards for PaperCrafts magazine submissions but they weren't chosen so I can share them now!

Rainbow Birthday
I actually really like how this one came out. I tried about three different ideas before I ended up with this one:
To Do:
Take a square shape - I used a square nestability - and lightly pencil the square shape onto the card. You can of course use any shape you want!
Take markers (I used Memento) and roughly 'color' areas, staying more or less within the shape. It doesn't have to be precise because you want that whimsical look.
Gently rub out the pencil marks.
Stamp your chosen image and sentiment.

Dragonfly and sentiment from GinaK Designs Whimsical Wishes

Butterfly Thank You
This card is based on a sketch that was provided and I followed it quite closely.
Butterfly paper is from Echo Park
Butterfly stamp from GinaK Designs Bold and Beautiful
Sentiment from All Occasion Tags

How I made the butterfly
I didn't stamp and then colored the butterfly but first colored with Memento markers on a piece of paper very much like I did the background in the card above. I then stamped the butterfly OVER the colored areas. Then I cut it out and mounted on very small 3D dots (1/18").

I also very lightly shaded the edge of the white cardstock with Crushed Olive (Tim Holtz) and a foam applicator.

Moxie Fab World: Vertical challenge

This card is for the Vertical Card challenge at Moxie Fab World.
Sentiment stamp from GinaK Designs "All Occasion Tags"

Moxie Fab: Square card challenge

This is my entry for the square card challenge over at Moxie FabWorld.

Sentiment stamp from GinaK Designs "Whimsical Wishes".
After a number of unsuccessful attempts at doing fancy stamping in the area for the flower, I ended up having an idea to recreate the flower image by using my Memento Dandelion tear drop ink pad. The center was done by dobbing Aged Mahogany (Tim Holtz) in the centre, adding speckles with Memento marker and then speckling with Champagne Stickles.

Moxie Fab: Horizontal challenge

This card is an entry for the Horizontal Sketch Challenge for Card Ideas Week over at Moxie Fab World:
All stamps from GinaK Designs "Whimsical Wishes"

a Happy Day

Just a quick posting for this card:
Flowers from GinaK Designs "Garden Silhouettes" and sentiment from "Whimsical Wishes".
Flowers first stamped in London Fog (Memento) and then in Tim Holtz "Fired Brick"

StampTV sketch challenge (September release)

For the September release at GinaK Designs, we are presented with two fun challenge over at http://www.stamptv.com/.

This one is for the sketch challenge

The beautiful flower stamp is from GinaK Designs "The Vine". This is the first time I'm using this one from the set and definately not the last.
The sentiment is from the "Bold and Beautiful" set.

Here's the original sketch:

Less is More: One layer seeing double!

This card is for the "One layer, seeing double" challenge over at Less is More. Follow the link to see some awesome ONE layer creations! Truly inspirational.

One layer cards are great for beginners. You don't need any special machines, die-templates, cutters etc.

And here is my card (I took it close-up and hope you can see the glitter on the outline and body):
Butterfly stamp: GinaK Designs "Bold and Beautiful"
Sentiment: GinaK Designs "Whimsical Wishes"

The butterfly was first stamped in London Fog ink and then with Memento Tuxedo Black.

The Creative Card Crew challenge: Babies

It's always exciting to stumble upon a new challenge website and I was happy to find the Creative Card Crew!  Their current challenge is BABIES!
I'm sharing this commissioned card for a baby shower with you:
This cute little bear is actually from a coloring page > http://coloring-pages.tv/bear-coloring-pages/cute-teddy-bear.php  (Coloring pages for kids hold a wealth of gorgeous images. Just check if there are any copyright on the images that might prohibit you from using them on items you sell.)

Wedding Cake

This week's "One Stop Craft Challenge" is FOOD AND DRINK!

I bought some Sakura Glaze pens (clear) a while back by mistake because I actually wanted the Stardust pens. At first I thought it was a bit of a loss but gradually I have found uses for it!

Take a look at this wedding card. I used the Glaze pen on the cake and it makes it look like gorgeous icing! (Close-up below). The bride's dress and veil is also covered in Glaze pen.

This cute image is actually a composite of FOUR seperate images from THIS digital stamp set from http://digidoodledoo.com/. I resized the bride and groom and changed them into cake toppers :D

Other products used:
  • Stickles Gold
  • Memento Markers
  • Basic Grey paper (patterned). The strip on the inside that the sentiment is on is the back of the same paper.
  • Tim Hotlz/Ranger Distress Collection cardstock
  • Liquid Pearls
  • Sentiment stamp (inside): GinaK Designs "The Vine"
  • Spellbinders die: Fancy Tags
  • Spellbinders die: Oval and Scalloped Oval (petite)
  • Roses from local craft supply shop
  • Small bit of waxed beading string

Boy Power

I just love it when a card comes together for a number of challenges. First of all it takes planning and secondly some creativity to make them fit!

This card is for:
The digi-stamp image is from Mo Manning's Super Kid set.
The sentiment and frame stamp from GinaK Designs, "All Occasion Tags"
Patterned paper: Basic Grey
Cardstock: Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Collection
Cardstock for images and sentiment: GinaK Designs 80lb white pure luxury

For the Shihan challenge we had to use markers, whichever ones we had, and this posed a bit of a problem since I only have 6 Memento Markers. And not even Red. I never use these for coloring, only for 'thumping' with regular stamps so it was a bit tricky. Mmm, I really need Shihan Markers! *HINT HINT* :D

Wee Memories Challenge 67: One Layer

I'm slowly starting to identify what my style is and must admit I'm quite happy with the one-layer theme for the Wee Memories ONE LAYER challenge.

Here's my card:
Images and sentiment are from GinaK Designs "The Vine".

Wishing you a Happy Day

This card was a very quick one for a previous http://www.stamptv.com/ challenge. We had to use some kind of sewing / stitching, sentiment as focal image AND some kind of embossing.
The flower stamp is from GinaK Designs "The Vine" and the sentiment from "Whimsical Wishes".

Creating a digital scrapbook page with My Memories

In my previous post,  I created a one-pager from scratch by using different elements from the My Memories software. This time, I used a pre-prepared layout. It comes as a 4-page album but you can add or remove pages as you like. I removed extra pages and stayed with a one-pager again. This layout is just the way it was created by the My Memories software. The only thing I added was the little booties which was chosen from the range of available embellishments it comes with!

This little girl, difficult to believe, is my 4-yr old when she was born up to about 6 or 7 months old.
And just for the record, today, 10 September 2011, I created my first ever 'scrapbook' page.

Showcasing "My Memories" software

I am so excited to start playing with the My Memories software. I'm slowly getting the hang of it and it is really not difficult. The great part of it is the FUN I'm having figuring it out!

Here is my first little 'project' I made using the software. I created an electronic invitation (since that's the way most of us communicate around here LOL):

The background paper, embellishments (notepad, paperclip, screws, stitched border) are all part of the package! You just go and select what you want! There are buttons, ribbons, bows, you name it!

COMING SOON: More Showcasing projects and a give-away. Keep your eyes peeled. (I have to figure out a FUN challenge for those taking part - MY TURN!)

Mo's Challenge # 98: Sketch!

This week's Digital Pencil (Mo Manning) challenge follows a sketch! First off, here's my take on it:
(Please click on the picture for a better version)
This beautiful image from Mo Manning can be found <HERE>. The sentiment on the circle is my own (available as a free download http://redcardcorner.blogspot.com/p/sentiments.html).
The left-hand panel was created by stamping a sentiment from GinaK Designs "Fanciful Tags" and heart image from GKD "All Occasion Tags" with London Fog ink. (See a previous post on how to stamp with two seperate images simultaneously).
The bottom flower panel was created by using a flower image from GKD "The Vine".

And here's the original sketch. Looks familiar?

Meljen's Challenge #74: No patterned paper

For the current Meljen's challenge #74, we could only use solid colored cardstock.
Again I was just drawn to this beautiful Christmas tree (and I'm slowly building up a collection of Christmas cards in the process!) I added the sentiment myself before printing out the image.

Thinking of AJ

I would like to share this card here that I made for a stamptv.com challenge. But MORE than this, is that it is for a blog follower and card-friend, AJ. (Her blog HERE)

The sentiment is from one of my new stamp sets, All Occasion Tags.

New circle centiment: Congratulations

See the "Sentiments" page link on top for a newly added circle sentiment "Congratulations"

Emboss challenge @ Lawnscaping

Lawnscaping's challenge # 17 is Embossing. And here's my very simple card:
I embossed the top part of the front layer with Cuttlebug's D'Vine Swirl (Love it!) and to edge it neatly I turned it upside down and scored one line with my Scor-Buddy.

The boat image (I sure use this one a lot) is from GinaK Designs "Enjoy the Sunshine". The sentiment is from Fanciful Tags.
The sails were paper pieced with some Basic Grey patterned cardstock.
I love discovering materials from previous hobbies that I can use on my current one, like the waxed string that I found in my beading stash. Yay, perfect color too.

And that's about it!

TIP: Placement of stamps without a grid block

To place a stamp straight on an acrylic block that does not have grid lines, do the following:
Place the acrylic block on a cutting mat, aligning the bottom end to the rule at the base.
Place your stamp now so that it aligns with one of the grid lines on the cutting mat.
If you use the edges of the acrylic block now to 'eye-ball' the placement of the stamp, the odds are in your favor that it would be more straight.

The Vine

I am SO excited to have received my new stamps from GinaK Designs today! And the first card I made is with Melanie Muenchinger's The Vine.
This card is perfectly timed for two challenges, too! Make It Monday #31: Creating Backgrounds With Non-background Stamps Participants and Wee Memories' Challenge #66 (Sentiments)

How I made the background:
I first ligthly rubbed over the plain white cardstock (GinaK!) with a foam applicator and Tim Holtz Crushed Olive. Then I stamped it with two of the small leaves from The Vine stamp set. But see how I placed them on my acrylic block:

Using this method I stamped with both images at the same time, their positions were the same but I did turn the stamp grouping to make their placement slightly random and to better cover any open spaces.
And this is what it looked like:
A note on the sentiment layer:
The sentiment was cut out as usual with a circle die. For the mounting circle I cut a larger circle from cardstock and then cut a Fancy Tag shape from the same cardstock. The fancy tag was then cut through and mounted on opposite ends on the back of the circle (idea from http://www.stamptv.com/). The ribbon was then threaded through this after the sentiment was glued on.

My first Pedestal / Easle Card

I always thought this is tricky but not at all :D

Cut cardstock to 4 1/4 " x 11".
Score at 5.5" (this is the middle fold) and at 2 3/4", that becomes the front wedge.
From the picture you can see that the front image was glued over the bottom half of the wedge.
The sentiment was used as the 'stopper' and you can gauge how wide you want this.
Really easy.

CPS sketch 233

I was asked to make an anniversary card for a friend and CPS sketch 233 provided the perfect layout and inspiration.
All three layer papers from Prima. Butterfly was stamped on Basic Grey paper and I added some Distress Stickles in Pewter.
The sentiment is from GinaK Design, "Fanciful Tags".
