Papertrey stamps & MIM #55

I am SO excited and happy. How often does it happen that someone offers you a whole stamp set for free. Thanks to Lee, a new card-friend, I got the PTI 3rd anniversary set called Round & Round (to see what the set looks like see http://forum.papertreyink.com/forum/gallery2.php?g2_itemId=105763). (Unfortunately these anniversary sets are not for sale but are 'earned' through rewards for purchases done at PTI. So how lucky am I?)
The Make It Monday challenge this week was very interesting. And I can't believe how long I struggled to put this card together once I had the frame done. (That was the easy part!).
The frame behind the circle was made by stamping TWO of the Calendar Bits & Pieces rectangular frame on top of one another (as shown in this video: http://nicholeheady.typepad.com/capture_the_moment/2012/02/make-it-monday-55-creating-large-frames-with-smaller-frame-stamps.html). The original frame can be seen in my previous post HERE.
The rest of it is all PTI's Round & Round set.

Glitter buttons (PTI)

I used a free image from PTI for this card and their technique for glittering up some buttons!
(Please click to enlarge - then it doesn't seem fuzzy. A bit odd)

A birthday boy

This is a birthday card for my card ministry at church. It's for a birthday boy:
The image is called "Ben" from Mo Manning's Digital Pencil. Scroll down on my page (http://www.redcardcorner.blogspot.com/p/my-stamps.html) to find the relevant link.

I printed two copies of the image. The first image I colored all over and was cut out with a square Spellbinders die and the edges shaded with Antique Linen (TI). I then colored the water can and pot on the second image and cut it out. Note: The part of the handle between the boy's hands are on the back copy only. The rest of it was glued down to the back copy by the nozzle (?) and opening of the can. The bottom of it was lifted with pop dots. The whole of the little pot was adhered with a little pop dot.

Here's a close-up:
This picture also shows that I put Glossy Accents on the flower and the pot.

Many Thanks with V&A and GinaK

I love the papers I got in the Docrafts Creativity magazine from V&A (museum edition). Although the magazine dates to early 2010 I'm glad in this case that South Africa is sometimes a tad behind.
I'm using CPS's Sketch #253 (http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/2012/02/cps-253-part-1.html).

To make that tag, I cut the sentiment out with a Labels 8 die (Spellbinders) and then fixed one end of a double ended tag at the back. I shaded the white edges with Antique Linen (Tim Holtz).
The half circle uses Spellbinders Scalloped Circles and Small Circles. It was shaded with Fired Brick (Tim Holtz) and the flower (and sentiment) stamped in Aged Mahogany (TI). The flower was covered with Glossy Accents (love that stuff).

Stamps used:
Faithful Florals (GinaK)
Garden Silhouettes (GKD)

Inks used:
Tim Holtz: Aged Mahogany, Fired Brick, Antique Linen

Pyramage butterfly

I recently saw in the Docraft "Creativity" magazine the technique of Pyramage. Now this can be as complicated or as simple as you'd like. Mine is probably the simplest form there is.
For my card I started off with 3 ovals (Spellbinders Classic Ovals Small). I used the three middle sizes and cut a white oval with each. I stamped bits of the butterfly around the edges and in the top oval, I stamped most of the image complete. It doesn't matter that it goes off-edge since a dimensional butterfly is going to go on top:
As you can see I colored a piece of white card stock with pencils and then stamped the butterfly in black on top. I cut out the top colored butterfly.
Here's the assembled card (using 3D dots for all layers except the dimensional butterfly which is just glued with some normal liquid glue on the body).
The card was photographed at quite an angle to try and capture the Glossy Accents on the wings.

Stamps used:
Bold and Beautiful (GinaK Designs)

Inks used:
Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Crushed Olive, Pine Needles
Memento: Tuxedo Black, Rich Cocoa

Paper:
Basic Grey "out of print" (it was shaded with Pine Needles distress ink to make it less yellow and more green)
Tim Holtz Distress Paper: Frayed Burlap

For More on Pyramage, here's another tutorial that is more complicated: http://www.papercraftjunkies.com/content/2009/02/pyramage-tutorial/
Or just GOOGLE :D

"Green" birthday gift

I made this covered journal for my "baby" sister whose birthday was yesterday.
The original book looked like this:
They are note books made from recycled paper available from Woolworths (for my SA friends).
I covered the front and pen with scrapbook paper (I think it's Basic Grey....) mounted on Tim Holtz distress paper.
The central image was stamped with "Tree Silhouettes" (GinaK Designs). I used Tim Holtz Antique Linen first to stamp three trees. I then stamped over them by first inking up the image with Tim Holtz Crushed Olive and then dabbing here and there with the tip of a Memento dew drop ink pad in Rich Cocoa before stamping.
The journal image was created on my computer.

Materials used:
Spellbinders Labels 8
Spellbinders Fancy Tags
Tim Holtz inks: Antique Linen, Crushed Olive
Memento ink: Rich Cocoa

And another OLC

This card is also for Less Is More's STRIPES challenge.
I created the stripes by holding two pieces of cardstock's edges apart and then just rubbing distress ink (Crushed Olive and Spun Sugar) well in-between with a foam applicator.

Stamps used:
Faithful Florals (GinaK Designs)
Bold & Beautiful (GKD)

Friends

I made this card for a friend in the States. She's not a follower here so I can post it. I'm mailing it off today or tomorrow :D
I used Sketch #27 from CPS: http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/2007/08/cps-27.html

The papers is from the Creativity magazine (Issue 20, December 2010) to celebrate the quilts and needlework pieces in the V&A museum's exhibition in London. I LOVE this vintage / antique look of it. And it's linen paper so it's very soft and 'fabricky'. I wanted to incorporate the whole sewing theme of the papers so added sewing on the ribbon and a bronze button.

Stamps used:
Sentiment: Tree Silhouettes (GinaK Designs)
Border: Docrafts - Creativity Magazine

Other materials:
Colorbox "Coffee House" ink set (for border stamp)
Memento Rich Cocoa (sentiment)
Paper from Creativity Magazine V&A papers
Rose Creations Spellbinders die
Tim Holtz distress paper

Creativity magazine & Sympathy card

I picked up this amazing magazine pack today. It's the "Creativity" magazing from Docraft (http://www.docrafts.com/). It was an edition that contained all these amazing stamps and papers. It was a V&A museum (London) edition to celebrate their quilts & needlework exhibitions.
As you can see it has 7 clear stamps, 2 bronze stencils, a 24-page paper pack reflecting antique quilt fabric and metallic border stickers. It also came at a VERY good price so I couldn't resist. Here's the first card I made with it.
The center panel was stamped with the one larger clear stamp and it's NOT cut out with Label 8 die (Spellbinders). Instead, I cut the outside DP (from the paper pack) with the Label 8 die to create this window. This was one of those cards that evolved differently from what I had pictured when I started.

The sentiment is from GinaK Designs' "Enjoy the Sunshine" (what an amazing set). The sentiment was cut with Fancy Tags and mounted on another die from the same set.

This is a One Layer Card! I just love Gina's video sponging a layer since it's really quick and very effective: http://stamptv.ning.com/video/sponging-a-layer

Stamps used:
Heart from Calendar Bits & Pieces (GinaK Designs)
Sentiment from Enjoy the Sunshine (GKD)

Inks used:
Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Spun Sugar, Fired Brick

The ribbon was added by punching two little holes with a hole punch and threading the ribbon through. I just tied a bow by hand.

CPS anniversary Day 15!!

I made it! It's the last day (15) of the CPS 5th anniversary celebration. I am SO glad I could've been a part of this. It was so exciting to see sketches I haven't seen before (since I only started card making less than a year ago!). So here's to everyone at CPS A BIG WHOOP and a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Here's my 15th (actually 17th) card especially for CPS:
This DARLING image is from one of my favorite digital stamp artists, Mo Manning. It can be found here: http://www.mosdigitalpencil.com/a-big-whoop/. I haven't done digital in a long time and it was good to get the pencils out again. I seldom have time for coloring so I haven't gone down this road in a while.
Here's CPS's sketch #231:
Other stamp used:
Enjoy the Sunshine (GinaK Designs)

(as soon as I track down my notebook I'll update the DP used :D)

CPS anniversary Day 14

Here's my card for Day 14 of the CPS anniversary! http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/2012/02/cps-5th-anniversary-day-14-with-keri.html

More anniversary cards with CPS #121

I really like sketch 121 that is highlighted on Day 13 of the CPS anniversary:  http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/2012/02/cps-5th-anniversary-day-13-with-lea.html
A little something about the card above:
The image was made using what I guess could be called "reverse silhouette" technique. As you can see from the image below (another stamp from the same set) the image stamps with a solid color, leaving the leaves as a silhouette. In the above card I reversed this by stamping it with embossing ink and then using CLEAR embossing powder. I then used my foam blender and blended thoroughly over the whole image (and going beyond the edges) with Pine Needles distress ink. So the green that you see around the edge and on the leaves is actually that blending's color.
The papers from Webster's Pages (Trendsetter, Ladies/Gents) is just SO beautiful for me I used them again. They are double-sided and so versatile.

Stamps used:
Whimsical Wishes (GinaK Designs): There are 3 of these round silhouette images (see previous post for the other one)
All Occasion Tags (GKD) for the sentiment

Tools & Materials:
Webster's Pages: Trendsetter (Ladies/Gents)
Prima paper pack:

Birthday wishes with floral fabric

This card is using CPS's sketch # 118 for the Day 12 (!!) challenge on their 5th anniversary.
Here's the link: http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/2012/02/cps-5th-anniversary-day-12-with-lisa.html
I immediately saw a fabric rosette sticking out and went through my scrap fabrics. I found a floral rectangular scarf that my dear daughter saw fit to cut into when she was smaller. So I just cut another strip off and gathered one edge in with long stitches. I didn't even go all the way since I just needed a half-circle shape.

Stamps used:
Faithful Florals (GinaK designs)
Whimsical Wishes (GKD)

Materials used:
Tim Holtz distress ink: Crushed Olive
Tsukineko Brilliance Dew Drop: Pearlescent Poppy
Memento Tuxedo Black
Spellbinders Rose Creations
We R Memory Keepers brads: Glitter, Neutral
DP: Prima Marketing, Botanical Collection, "Beloved"
DP for flower: Scraps from Basic Grey papers
Solid paper for mounting: Tim Holtz Distress Paper "Victorian Velvet"
Ribbon: Ribbon Collection (South African)

Very serious (CPS Day 11)

This card turned out SO somber!
Here's CPS's Day 11 link: http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/2012/02/cps-5th-anniversary-day-11-with-jennie.html
Here's my card:
I went last week and finally got a proper heat gun. The shop didn't have plain white embossing powder but it had this "puffing" embossing powder. It creates a very interesting texture:
I'm not sure I like how serious this card is but it might find an occasion some day ...

Here's CPS's sketch:

Zorro's Valentine

This picture was cut from a very old scrapbook page from Graphic 45. The letters were done on my computer and printed out. It's strange - no stamping at all!
This card is for Day 9 of CPS: http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/2012/02/cps-5th-anniversary-day-9-with-deb.html
The letters were cut out with a Spellbinders tag die and the bottoms cut off with scissors. They're strung up with baker's twine from The Twinery.

A more romantic Congrats

This card is a third option for the wedding congratulations card that was commissioned. It is also based on the sketch for CPS anniversary Day 7! http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/2012/02/cps-5th-anniversary-day-7-with-jen-buck.html
What GREAT inspiration these sketches have been. They've made me feel like I'm on a roll!

Happy Birthday Angel Isabel!!

I was making this card for CPS anniversary Day 6 when Isabel saw it and liked it so much she asked if that can be her birthday card. Her birthday is tomorrow, Feb 5th! And she asked for a BIG flower - so that's an addition to the sketch ;D

"Timely" Birthday (masculine)

This masculine birthday card took me some time to figure out, based on the Day 3 sketch of CPS (http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/2012/01/cps-5th-anniversary-day-3-with-angie.html). I'm always uncomfortable putting anything at an angle!!!  I didn't have the scalloped die that would have copied the sketch so I stuck to the standard card shape.

Stamps used:
Boat: Enjoy the Sunshine (GinaK Designs)
Sentiment: Whimsical Wishes (GKD)

Materials used:
Background DP: Webster's Pages Trendsetter "Ladies/Gents"
Sails: Scrap paper
Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Broken China
Memento Tuxedo Black
Fabscraps bronze pearls
Tim Holtz distress paper

Tools used:
Small circle punch (only used it on the corner to create the inverted corner effect on the sentiment)
Corner rounder (on main image panel)
Tonic paper trimmer
Scor-Pal
Foam blender

Wedding card (non-traditional)

I like to sometimes make an unusual card for an event. Such as this wedding card in unexpected colors. The sentiment is perfect though and therefor the trees (one of my favorite images):
This card is also for the CPS anniversary Day 4 (http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/2012/02/cps-5th-anniversary-day-4-with-jeanne.html). I turned the sketch on its side and omitted and bling. Instead of the additional "circle" element, I replaced it with the knotted bronze thread.

This card is also for: http://stampinsistersinchrist.blogspot.com/2012/01/challenge-124-ph-48.html

Stamps used:
Tree Silhouettes (GinaK Designs)

Materials used:
Tim Holtz Distress inks: Antique Linen, Aged Mahogany
Memento Tuxedo Black
Bronze DMC metallic embroidery thread
Background DP: Fabscraps "Heritage Small Floral"
Mounted on Tim Holtz Distress paper

Masculine Love Card

I actually LOVE how this came out and with practice, cutting multiple layers is becoming quicker.

Stamp used:
All Occasion Tags

Materials used:
Designer papers:

  • Webster's Pages "Trendsetter" / Ladies & Gents (Flower)
  • Bo Bunny Et Cetera Stamped (Back layer and smaller rectangle uses the back of it)
  • 7 gypsies Greenwich (back of the paper is brown larger rectangle)
Front rectangles mounted on Tim Holtz Distress paper "Vintage Photo"
GinaK pure luxury 80lb card stock (white)
Memento Rich Cocoa ink

Tools used:
Tonic paper trimmer
Scor-Pal
Spellbinders Rose Creations
(Note: The tag was cut out by hand)

This is my entry for Day 1 of the CPS anniversary challenge and the StampTV January release challenge (patterned / designer paper). It's also for Lily Pad Card (patterned paper).
Also entered into: http://divasbydesignchallenge.blogspot.com/2012/02/challenge-20-anything-goes.html
and http://whimsyinspires.blogspot.com/2012/02/challenge-24-make-your-own-flowers.html

Faith Garden

This is the second card for the Stamptv March 2012 card swap. I'm also entering it into the Lily Pad Cards "Patterned Paper" challenge.
The flowers were stamped by first inking just the flower bit with Colorbox cat's eyes ink and then inking up the stalks with Crushed Olive. I stamped once for the darker shade and then "stamped off" for a lighter image. (I used this technique on the yellow "showered with blessings" card not long ago.)
This panel was mounted on some Fired Brick card stock (TI).
The Faith sentiment was stamped on some scrap paper, the corner rounded and holes punch into the edges.
The flower panel was glued to the DP before the sentiment was glued down with the ribbon.

I love stamping focal images so I'm also entering this into: http://stampinsistersinchrist.blogspot.com/2012/01/challenge-124-ph-48.html

Stamps used:
Faithful Florals (GinaK Designs)

Materials used:
GinaK Designs pure luxury 80lb card stock
DP: Me & My Big Ideas (very old paper I had in my stash)
Ribbon from The Ribbon Company (South African)
Colorbox ink
Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Crused Olive)
Tim Holtz Distress paper (Fired Brick)

Tools used:
Tonic paper trimmer
Hole punch (Darice)
Scor-Pal

Faith Bouquet

This card was made for the March 2012 Card Swap over at www.stamptv.com.
I stamped the flowers three times. Once straight up, and then on both sides with the middle (stalks) overlapping. I used my paper piercer to make two little holes on either side of the stalk bundle and then threaded twine through and made a bow.
The flowers were also stamped by first putting Crushed Olive ink on the stalks, I would then rub away any green on the flowers part with my fingers. I then colored the flowers in with a Memento Marker straight onto the stamp before stamping. What I like is that there is some residual green left over that blends with the pink creating a lovely shaded effect.
The sentiment was stamped vertically and the edges of the panel was shaded with Antique Linen.
I don't have a corner punch that punches an inverted half-moon shape but I do have a large hole punch. I just punch half a hole out of the corners :D
The little pearls were glued by hand.

Stamps used:
Faithful Flowers (GinaK Designs)

Materials used:
GinaK pure luxury 80lb cardstock
The Twinery twine (Lemon drop)
Memento Marker (pink)
Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Crushed Olive)
Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Antique Linen)
Fabscraps pearls
Tim Holtz Distress paper (green back panel)

Tools used:
Tonic paper trimmer
Hole punch (Darice)
Paper piercer
Scor-Pal
