PTI Make it Monday #56: Die Cutting Partial Images

*** Don't forget to join my 1 year anniversary give-away ***

This was tricky and I had to improvise. But I'm definitely putting the foam and other materials on my to-get-list!
To see the very fascinating video on partial cutting with PTI dies see here: http://nicholeheady.typepad.com/capture_the_moment/2012/03/make-it-monday-56-die-cutting-partial-images.html

Here's my card entry:

My short-cut to partially cut out the central image was to make vertical cuts along the card stock to the edge of the stamped circle. I did this on all four sides. I then placed my circle die inside with the part I didn't want cut on the outside. Like this:
The background paper was made by stamping the little butterfly from the Papertrey Ink (PTI) Round & Round anniversary set with embossing ink and then clear embossing it. I shaded over it with Tumbled Glass and Broken China (Tim Holtz). The edges of the central image panel was also shaded a bit.
The central image was stamped with Peeled Paint (TH). There was a little ink left over from a previous stamping session and that blended in on the butterfly. Quite nice I think. I love these little 'accidents' that work out great.
Because the cutting of the vertical strips had to go to the edge of the circle, and the circle die doesn't cut into the same area I had tiny little slits cut into the edge of the circle. I hid it with some Liquid Pearls and then to balance it out added a couple of other accents with it.
I'm starting to LOVE PTI's video and challenges since it's pushing my creativity further. Can't WAIT to get my new set (it's on its way over the waters).

I'm also entering this card in:

  6. Great way to cut out the shape. The finishing touches of glossy accents on your butterfly and liquid pearls look great.
